Get up and go: UPDATE

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

I’m happy to report my get up and go, got up and returned yesterday, and I spent most of the day putting the house back in its proper order. Three little days of neglect and the house came dangerously close to looking the way it did before I turned over my neat leaf.

And, yes the foundation of cleanliness and organization that I’ve been building did help make Saturday’s cleanup much easier than it could have been. I just peaked under the sink a few times to see all the soaps and cleaning products in their proper places to inspire myself.

And, as the final act of cleaning, just to put the icing on the cake, I hauled out the old carpet cleaner and shampooed the kitchen chairs.

They used to be a beautiful cream color, but over the years developed black splotches. I don’t even want to know what the splotches are. I just want to know that the carpet cleaner gets rid of them. The splotches, yes, but the chair seats themselves remain a much darker, dirtier color than the less-used backs. I’m planning to experiment with some bleach, just a touch, to see if they get brighter and return to something closer to their original color. I’ll report back once I’m done.

Podcast coming soon

Monday, March 10th, 2008

I expect to have a podcast out sometime before the end of this week.  It will probably deal in detail with one major topic (likely, uncluttering your kitchen) and then a few other smaller items.  I know I said I’d have one out every week or so, but last week was a bit hectic, what with the kids on March break and everything.    If you have any topics you’d like me to cover in the podcast, or on the blog, please don’t hesitate to ask.

This past weekend, we uncluttered the kids rooms.  I’m working on a post about that, which will no doubt be the focus of a future podcast.

Mission change

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

I think I’ll be changing the mission of the blog and podcast. Rather than focusing strictly on simplifying our live to make them better, I thought I’d broaden that to really anything that will make our lives better. Make us glad we’re here.

For some people, the thing that really makes them happy to be alive is family, for others its playing with their latest tech gadgets or building something from scratch. Anything that will bring us closer to enjoying a fulfilling, happy life is now fair game to Long Days and Pleasant Nights.

For me, it’s two of the three items I names above, my family first and then my gadgets, although my family may tell you it’s the other way around. But, of course there’s also reading a good book, listening to great music and getting into The Zone, for whatever it is you do.

The name of the blog remains the same, but the slogan has got to go.

How about:

  • Long Days and Pleasant Nights: For a Happier Life or,
  • Long Days and Pleasant Nights: Whatever Makes You Happy or,
  • Long Days and Pleasant Nights: Get Happy or,
  • Long Days and Pleasant Nights: Cool stuff to make you happy or,
  • Long Days and Pleasant Nights: A Better Life, One Cell at a Time or,
  • Long Days and Pleasant Nights: Making Lives Better. One Billion Served.
  • Long Days and Pleasant Nights: Just Plain Better
  • Long Days and Pleasant Nights: Stuff for a Better Life
  • Long Days and Pleasant Nights: Stuff for a Happier Life
  • Long Days and Pleasant Nights: Life is Good

I like the bolded, red one myself, but I’ll keep thinking for a little while. I might just put it up temporarily while I think. Feel free to tell me which one you like best or suggest a new one in the comments.

Podcast #1: What got me started

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

Here’s the first true episode of the Long Days and Pleasant Nights podcast. It’s all about what inspired me to embark on this journey into inner peace. Inner Peace. That still sounds hokey to me, but in time I’m sure I’ll get used to it.

Podcast

I’ve decided to do a podcast for Long Days and Pleasant Nights. It just felt right. While I get the whole iTunes thing set up, here’s a sample of the 0th episode.
