Long Days and Pleasant Nights

Long Days and Pleasant Nights (pleasantnights.com) gets its name from a common greeting in mid-world, Stephen King’s imaginary land from his epic series The Dark Tower.

The standard response is “May you have twice the number.”

I thought it was a nice sentiment, so I decided to use it as the title of my blog.

Who I am. I’m a dad. My kids are 9 (girl) and 7 (boy). I’ve recently become an organizer and de-clutterer and I’ve taken my family along with me, kicking and screaming. They’re not happy when dad (and hubby) decides it’s time to clean the [fill in the blank], but they like the end result. This blog details my quest to declutter and organize my home and keep it that way.

My organizing/cleaning history. My mom was always a neatfreak and we used to make fun of her for it. For the first 20 years of living on my own and with my growing family, I resisted the urges to keep neat. I like things neat and organized, but like many other people I’m lazy. I find now, once the big de-cluttering job is done, it takes only minutes a day to keep it that way. I’m still lazy, but I don’t want all that cleaning/organizing work to be for naught.

Focus of my blog.  Trying to keep my home clean, neat and organized while faced with the many challenges of being a 40-something working dad and husband.
